Meditation statistics is another one of those phrases that people are searching for on the internet.
But let me ask you this. If you were starving, would you be interested in how much food was consumed in the world last year? Or would you just want something to eat?
If I offered you a pizza, would you be interested in how many pizzas were sold last month, and which were the best selling varieties of pizza? Or would you just want to eat the pizza? Of course, you would not be interested in pizza statistics, you would just want to eat the thing.
If you really are looking for meaningful meditation statistics, I think you will really struggle. For instance, I live in the UK, and I started meditating over twenty years ago. Then, it was unacceptable for christians to use the word meditation, it was a term that invited the usual jokes and ridicule in many quarters. People around the world cannot even agree what meditation is, so any meditation statistics that you can find will be really meaningless. I have no doubt that there are meditation statistics for the total number of meditators, there are meditation statistics for health benefits, there may even be meditation statistics for each major religion. But so what?
The important thing is this. Ask yourself, how would knowing about meditation statistics help you at all? It would't. As for the meditation statistics that do exist, I have no idea how many people meditate in the world today. Judging by the amount of stress and unhappiness there is, I reckon not too many!
How would knowing every single meditation statistic that there is, how would it help you in answering any feelings of unease, or feelings of never knowing the whole truth about yourself, and who and what you are?
The truth is, meditation statistics are nothing more than fodder for your insatiable mind. A mind that would never ever be satisfied if it knew all the meditation statistics in the Universe.
No. Meditation statistics are a distraction to the real purpose of meditation.
