Walking Meditation

Several times I have been asked "Is there any meditation technique that I can use whilst I am walking?"

It all depends on what your definition of meditation is. I would say that it is not possible to meditate whilst walking. The reason being, that it is possible for you to reach such depths if stillness, that you lose all awareness of your physical, mental and emotional bodies. So, how could your body walk, with 'you' not being present?

However, some others would say that it is possible to meditate and walk. But what I really think they are talking about is being 'mindfull' whilst they are walking. That is, 'you' are stuck in the prison of your mind. From that place, you stay as calm as you can, remain vigilant in your mind, and go for a walk.

Well, that is not meditation. That is doing the best you can with the tools that you have available, but it is not meditation. By all means go walking, be mindfull, then when you come back from your walk, watch the free Meditation Class Video from this site. There is nothing on the video about walking meditation, but there techniques that will allow you to discover for yourself exactly what meditation really is.
